PROVIDENCE, R.I: Join Gallery Z to celebrate the opening of our 128th exhibit, Stephan Brigidi's "THE CITY": Photographs and Collages, on October 17, 2013 from 5:00-9:00pm, during which the artist will be present to discuss his work. Also join us for our Art, Food, and Wine event on October 31, 2013, from 5:00-7:00pm.

Stephan Brigidi has been a practicing artist for more than forty years. His obsession has always been with people and culture. He is a self-described historian, who traces his own history within the context of Italian family origins as well as world history. Brigidi has continually been concerned with art that informs him about social issues and multi-cultural events. He has also based his many years as an educator within this framework. He is currently a member of the Humanities faculty at Roger Williams University.

The City is the chosen theme for this, his second one-person exhibit at Z Gallery.

It is the urban environment that has drawn his attention the past ten years, and this exhibit presents work done domestically, rather than his know European and Hawaiian photographs. Brigidi has photographed the mundane, the ordinary, the gritty streets, industrial sites and urban objects, deliberately sans people. His works on paper, as collage with paint and other media, literally present the fragments of the city environs.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1951, Brigidi is an extremely widely published and exhibited artist whose work has been in over 40 museums throughout the United States and Europe, among them the Whitney Museum of American Art; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris; American Academy, Rome; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Wash., DC; Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design; Rhode Island Historical Society; Collections of University of Parma, Italy; Chrysler Museum, Norfolk, VA; Santa Barbara Museum of Art, CA; Smithsonian Institution; Library of Congress; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; The Newport Art Museum;DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA; Peabody Essex Museum; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, and many others.
