PROVIDENCE R.I. On Thursday, August 16th, 2012 join us for the opening reception for our newest exhibition featuring works by Francesco Agresti and Benjamin Giguere,” from 5:00 – 9:00 PM.

For the month of August Gallery Z is proud to present an exhibit by Francesco Agresti and Benjamin Giguere. Agresti’s incredible abstract oil paintings find a poetic balance between symmetry and emotion, while Giguere’s hand blown glass creations explore the boundaries of structure through fluidity.

Francesco Agresti (b.1949) was born and raised in Itri, Italy. He received his education in New York, where he received his BFA and MFA at Hunter /Lehman College CUNY (City University of NY). His first exhibitions as an emerging artist were at the Museum of Bronx, NYC, and at the PS1 Contemporary Art Center. Agresti then returned to Italy to pursue painting and teach at University of La Verne in Napoli. In the early nineties, Francesco returned to America to teach as a Professor of the visual arts Universities in Winston-Salem, Greensboro North Carolina before finding paradise in his current home, Venice, Florida, where he creates and paints. Francesco has had several showings and representations in Italy, Germany, Russia and many in the USA as well, including: New York, Iowa, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgia and Florida. Francesco still keeps a studio in Via Appia, Italy, where he returns at least once a year to paint.

In this exhibit, Francesco will be showcasing a fantastic collection of newer works. He describes his style as geometric abstraction. He states: “My work begins with the body, the tangible, the sensual. The body, however suggested, becomes the metaphor for transformative reality. The body becomes a landscape and the landscape becomes a ritualized space where emotions move. The outside becomes the inside; the framed, the boundless.”

Benjamin Giguere (b.1978) stumbled upon the art of glass working in 1997 when he took a temporary job at a small town glass factory in Vermont. Soon enough, though, he found himself working full time, apprenticed under master glass workers from around the world. This job led to an 11 year career at Simon Pearce, one of the finest crystal factories worldwide. Ben moved to Providence, RI in 2008 to learn more techniques in glass making. In 2011, Ben created GATHER GLASS, a studio where he now teaches and works on design projects

Ben states: “As an artist, my creative process involves a synergistic dance of sorts. I constantly strive to find new ways to connect the alchemical to the material elements of glass in design. My most inspired work, however, comes from learning to allow the glass to inform me how and what it wishes to become. This approach continues to fuel my passion and obsession with glass.”

The opening reception will be on Thursday, August 16th from 5 – 9 PM. The exhibit runs from August 2nd through September 1st.

Also, on the last Thursday of each month, the participating Public Art Window organization at Gallery Z hosts a fundraising event to elevate public consciousness for their cause.
