Providence, RI (February 4, 2007) Gallery Z invites you to join us on Thursday, March 15, 2007 from 5-9pm for the opening of “Photographers of Current Times,” and exhibition of photographs by four graduates of the Rhode Island School of Design.

Featured photographers include Noah David Smith, Dorthe Alstrup, Jeffrey Silverthorne, and Jenny Edwards. Gary Metz will curate “Photographers of Current Times,” as he has done for over 25 exhibitions across the country. Metz was an active part of the RISD community for more than 20 years, where he worked as both a professor and the head of the Photography department. He has spent his life as an artist, a teacher, a curator, and a critic. Metz stated that the works of the former RISD students will address a wide range of contemporary issues.

Photographer and Filmmaker Noah David Smith “creates beautiful, evocative images with his natural aesthetic, distinct composition, and elegant style.” Smith’s clients have included names such as the History Channel, Kate Spade, A&E, Maybelline, Metropolis Magazine, Readymade Magazine, among countless others. Smith graduated from the RISD with a MBA in photography.

Dorthe Alstrup graduated with honors from RISD with an MBA in photography in 2003. Alstrup says that what interests her the most “are the nuances and subtleties of human relationships, the moments of tension that are created when individuals exist within the same environment.” Her works have been featured in numerous publications such as the Providence Journal and the British Journal of Photography.

Jeffrey Silverthorne is currently an Associate Professor at Roger Williams University and has been lecturing at a vast number of institutions across the globe since 1973. He has participated in countless group and solo exhibitions and received an extensive number of awards. Since receiving his MBA in Photography from RISD in 1977, Silverthorne has been featured in an impressive number of publications, ranging from magazines to books of collected works.

Jenny Edwards received her BFA in 1985 from RISD. She then went on to graduate from the Yale University School of the Arts with a MFA in photography. Edwards has collections in various galleries across the country, as well as in Madrid, Spain.
